This years senior class has the mindset to bring home a championship for the school and they are willing to anything they must to succeed.
This 2020-21 season is a meaningful year for the seniors and they plan on leaving everything they have in them on the Roskos Family Baseball Field. The Saints have not won a state championship in years and the seniors this year hope to change that and bring home a title for Notre Dame Prep.
Max Baker, a senior at Notre Dame Prep, took some time out of his day to reflect on the senior class and the impact of the group will have on the team this upcoming year. “It’s cool because we’ve gone through 4 years with the same group,” said Baker. There is depth at every spot on the field and Baker thinks the pitchers mean the most and have the most depth. “The pitchers are going to make or break the season,” said Baker.
The pitching staff this year has Division 1 talent from the seniors. There are two senior pitchers who have verbally committed to play in college. Tyler Herges plans on attending Azusa Pacific University in California and Max Zdimal plans on attending Princeton University in New Jersey.
Mikey Ford, another senior at NDP, knows the importance of the senior class and what they will do this season. “I think the team will have a legitimate chance at bringing home a championship,” said Ford. Ford is a part of a lockdown infield group and he stated, “the strongest position group on the team is the corner infielders.” Keep an eye out for the Saints’ corner infielders this season.
The infield for the Saints rarely makes errors which makes them so reliable and solid. Led by Ford, the senior infielders will make sure no balls will go under their gloves.
The head coach of the Saints, Coach Fischer, is ready to guide his senior players on the right path to a title. “They’ve put in a lot of work for 4 years now,” said Fischer. Fischer understands the impact and how key the seniors are for this team. “We have roughly 17 or 18 seniors coming back and we are going to run them out there and see what happens.”
Coach Fischer has been the coach at NDP for many years and this may be one of the talented and impactful senior classes he has had. With his leadership, the Saints plan on competing for another state title for the Saints to bring home.
The class of 2021 has waited for their time to bring home a title for the Saints. This year’s senior class is going to give it all they have to leave a positive legacy for the NDP baseball program and especially for themselves as a group.
